Dr. Michael Oertel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology with expertise in stem and progenitor cell biology, tissue replacement mechanisms, and cell-based therapy strategies in fibrotic environments.
His research program focuses on developing innovative approaches to restore liver function through transplantation of hepatocytes and progenitor cells. He has established preclinical transplantation models in rats that recapitulate key features of human liver disorders, providing a powerful platform to study how transplanted cells integrate, replace injured hepatic tissue, and promote repair.
As an advisor to SyntherionBio, Dr. Oertel brings critical expertise in regenerative medicine and liver disease models to guide the company’s therapeutic strategy.
