Dr. John Morrison is a Distinguished Professor of Neurology whose research focuses on the neurobiology of aging and neurodegenerative disorders. He is President of the Society for Neuroscience and previously served as Director of the California National Primate Research Center (2016–2022). His program investigates neuronal and synaptic organization of the cerebral cortex and changes in age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Morisson’s program focusses on loss of thin spines with age in the pyramidal cells of the prefrontal cortex and how this impacts cognitive function.

His laboratory is building a comprehensive model of synaptic health, defining how structural and molecular deviations contribute to cognitive decline and increase vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease.

As an advisor to SyntherionBio, Dr. Morrison brings expertise in brain aging, synaptic biology, and translational neuroscience to guide strategies targeting neurodegenerative disorders.
